Winter Clinics

The EGSA Winter Training Philosophy

In keeping with EGSA's focus on fundamental player development, particularly in our younger age groups, our winter programming is centered around individual foot skills, technical proficiency with the soccer ball, and building every player's confidence and soccer IQ. This philosophy is important for all youth soccer players, at both the recreational and competitive levels of play. All EGSA winter sessions are run by professional coaches from our partner, Challenger Sports, so you can be sure that your children are receiving top notch instruction from highly-skilled, licensed trainers.

House League Players: Winter Foot Skills Clinics

Our house league clinics are all about having fun while improving soccer skills. We estimate that in the first 35 minutes the kids touch the ball almost 600 times. They learn to use all of the surfaces of the foot and this improves confidence on the ball. Clinics always finish with small sided games so the players can have fun and try out their new moves!

Please note these are coed clinics.
There is a maximum registration of 50 players to ensure a reasonable player-to-coach ratio.
Players will be roughly divided into age groups each week by the professional Challenger trainers to allow for focused, age-appropriate instruction.

Winter Session 1 (9 clinics): 11/6 - 1/22 (no clinics on 11/27, 12/25, or 1/1)
Winter Session 2 (9 clinics): 1/29 - 3/25 (Registering now.)
Refer to the full winter schedule below.

When: Wednesday evenings from 5-6 pm
Where: Wide World of Indoor Sports South, on Davisville Road in North Kingstown

Travel Team Players: Winter Technical Training Program

For our travel team players, EGSA runs a technical training program that is designed to challenge and improve every player's confidence, fitness, and decision-making with a soccer ball. The Club strongly feels that this program is consistent with our core principles and player development philosophy. One of the tenets of that philosophy is that players should augment their soccer playing with other sports to prevent sports specialization injuries. Many of our players also enjoy basketball, hockey, skiing, dance, and gymnastics over the winter months, and this program will (hopefully) allow them to better balance soccer with those activities.

Program Highlights:

- Three, one-hour technical training sessions offered every week throughout the entire winter season (November-March)
- Sessions will be held from 6-7 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday each week
- Tuesday sessions are for GOALKEEPERS in the Eldredge Elementary School Gym in East Greenwich.
- Wednesday & Thursday sessions are for EVERYONE at Wide World of Indoor Sports in North Kingstown.
- All sessions will be led by professional Challenger trainers
- Players can choose which session(s) they can attend each week based on their schedules
- Cost is $150 per player for the entire winter regardless of how many technical training sessions they attend (there is no minimum or limit)

While players can attend any tech session that is convenient for them, we encourage the following focus nights:
Tuesdays: Goalkeepers
Wednesdays: U12-U15 players
Thursdays: U9-U11

The benefits of this model are:
- providing consistent, high-quality soccer training to all travel team players in the off-season
- a focus on individual player development
- much needed scheduling flexibility for our players and families to balance other winter sports/activities
- train with friends/players from other EGSA teams - there is no expectation that you show up the same night(s) as your current teammates (but you certainly can)!
- an unbelievable value - it's the best deal in town! For $150, our players can train 1-3 times per week for 22 weeks. If a player comes to one session per week, that's only $6.82/session. You can't beat that.
For the 2019-2020 Winter Season, players are strongly encouraged, but not required, to participate.
In future winter seasons, the Technical Training Program will be a requirement for participation in the EGSA travel team program.
There are no team practices over the winter season, unless coordinated separately by the travel team parent coach.
