EAST GREENWICH SOCCER ASSOCIATION

Spring 2020 Season

General Information

This page will tell you everything you need to know about the Spring 2020 House Soccer Season.

Please note: EGSA forms our Recreational League teams by school-grade in order to create a fun, developmental program for our young soccer stars.  When players advance into older recreational divisions and travel soccer, team formation is done by birth year, per US Youth Soccer rules. For now, let the kids play with their friends!

We are working hard to include as many kids as possible and have extended the age to 6th grade this season! We are so excited to try this but need your help spreading the word. Thanks - EGSA

Challenger Trainers and Clinics

Our professional trainers from Challenger Sports are mostly responsible for developing players' individual soccer skills. These sessions are run clinic-style and employ games and exercises that focus on foot skills, ball familiarity, and technique, all while having fun! Parent Coaches are strongly expected to attend these clinics when they are able to! Parent coach involvement helps in three ways:
1) extra supervision to maintain order throughout the clinic and assist with injuries, shoe tying, etc.
2) extra coaches means more personal attention and guidance for the players with their soccer skills.
3) Parent Coaches just might pick up a coaching trick or two from the Challenger trainers!

The following Challenger clinics are offered this spring:
(Clinics are optional. If your player is involved in another sport or does not feel comfortable in a large group, we understand and appreciate your players for who they are!)

U8 Girls - Thursday, 4:30 - 5:15 p.m. (Frenchtown Lower Field)
U8 Boys - Thursday, 5:30 - 6:15 p.m. (Frenchtown Lower Field)
U10 - U12 Coed - Thursday, 6:30 - 7:15 p.m. (Frenchtown Lower Field)
U6 Coed - Sundays. Group 1 from 1-1:30 p.m. and Group 2 from 1:45 - 2:15 (Meadowbrook)
For U6 teams, Challenger clinic is immediately followed by a game. Arrive at your scheduled time for clinic then hustle to your designated field to start the game!)
Little Kickers - Sunday, 11:00 & 12:00 (Meadowbrook)

The Role of Parent Coaches

Parent coaches are an essential part of EGSA's Recreational Program and should be committed to their team for the duration of the season. As a coach, you are a role model for your team's players and will help shape their love of the sport of soccer. Coaching is a very rewarding volunteer experience and it does not take much of your time. Listed below are the specifics for each age group.

U8 - U12 division: Parent Coaches are expected to attend the Challenger Clinic with their teams and encouraged to hold a weekly team practice that focuses on technical skills, game play (throw-ins, goal kicks, etc), and teamwork. There are resources on our website (look under the Coaches menu) to help you quickly plan a practice and our coaching directors are happy to give you advice if you ask. We have several coaches without soccer experience and are happy to help you learn to love this community volunteer opportunity! (Time commitment: 2-3 hours/week, weekday and weekend)

U6 division: Parent Coaches are expected to attend the Challenger Clinic with their teams, which is held 30 minutes before the U6 games on the weekend. You are not required to hold any additional practices for your team, but can if you would like. (Time Commitment: 1-1.5 hours/week, weekend only)

Little Kicker division: Parent Coach Coordinators are expected to attend the Challenger Clinic with their groups each weekend. (Time commitment: < 1 hour/week, weekend only)

Per Soccer Rhode Island and US Youth Soccer, all EGSA Coaches need to successfully complete a background check.
If you volunteer to coach during the registration process, you will be contacted for more information.
